Wilson Motors Night Rocked Goss Stadium
by Dan Segel
One of the Corvallis Knights inaugural sponsors was Wilson Motors. The popular Ford dealer off 5th and Buchanan Street teamed up with the Knights to promote Wilson Motors Night at Goss Stadium.
The goal of the event was to drive traffic to the dealership and ballpark by offering free tickets to the public. Wilson Motors bought out the ballpark and through print, radio, internet and ballpark advertising, the Knights directed fans to Wilson Motors to get their free tickets for Wilson Motors Night on August 1, 2007.
"We gave away our allotment of 1,000 tickets and needed an extra 200 tickets to meet demand. That gives you an idea of how many people came down to the dealership asking for tickets," said Wilson Motors Sales Manager Dave Domholt.
1,206 fans attended Wilson Motors Night. It was a festive crowd that packed Goss Stadium. It sure seemed like more than 1,200 folks in the stands. They were loud and they even started a couple waves during the game. I seriously can't recall seeing a wave at Goss before, but it was pretty cool. Fans went home happy as the Knights won 5-2 over division rival Kitsap and Oregon State hurlers Blake Keitzman and Greg Peavey pitched the hometown team to victory, Keitzman getting the win and Peavey the save.
"We are proud to be a sponsor of the Corvallis Knights and are looking forward to another great season. Last summer's Wilson Motors Night was a big hit with our employees. The park was packed and that was exciting," said Domholt.
As a premier sponsor, Wilson Motors advertises on the team's home page and at the ballpark. The club's intern team entertained fans all summer with a between-inning promotion featuring a replica car race that ran beyond the outfield fencing pitting a Ford Fusion, Mustang and Edge. It wasn't always pretty out there (a few too many crashes), but it added to all the fun at Goss.
Both the Knights and Wilson Motors are gearing up for an even bigger and better Wilson Motors Night - Friday, August 8, 2008.
It's super to have such great fans as Wilson Motors - they are great people and the dealership is a genuine Corvallis institution.
